Events
NJArts’ most recent events have been for young people from marginalised backgrounds in London and beyond. Open Mic sessions were the creation of Director, Saira Peter. They are informal, encouraging events where young people can perform in any style or language they wish. We have welcomed families, individuals and even entire choirs from British Asian communities with roots in India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. Individuals from Japan, Africa and Latin American diasporas have also joined in. Saira teams these young performers with professional artists, in voice or instrument, who are keen to accompany and support their performances. Her leadership ensures there is no competitive atmosphere or fear of failure for anyone wishing to participate. ‘Open Mic’ is both inclusive and fun.
